Abstract
Following are eight proposals, made to the National Conference of Editorial Writers, for improving journalism education. The proposals were written by the NCEW's Journalism Education Committee and first appeared in the Winter Masthead, the NCEW quarterly publication. They were prepared to stimulate discussion at a conference on journalism education sponsored by the ANPA Foundation at Reston, Va. February 28. Attending the conference were representatives of 17 professional and educational journalism organizations. Participants at the conference agreed to let the eight proposals serve as springboards for further discussions among professional journalists and educators this year on the future of journalism education. The proposals are reprinted here with permission of Masthead and the chairman of the NCEW Journalism Education Committee, Lee Smith of the Buffalo (N. Y.) News. The Comment following each proposal explains the committee's reasoning behind that proposal.
