Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the robust vibration control of a thin plate covered with a controllable constrained damping layer. The mixed sensitivity method in H\#8734; control theory is employed to synthesize the robust controller, which can reject the model uncertainties resulting from the modeling of the electromechanical dynamic characteristic of the structure and model reductions. The disturbance/output characteristic of the structure is considered in robust control design. The numerical simulations and experimental results indicate that H\#8734; control can suppress effectively low-frequency modal vibrations of a thin plate covered with a controllable constrained damping layer without spillovers of the truncated modes. Thereby, it provides more robust stability than displacement proportional feedback control.
