Abstract
The author describes the importance of writing as a means of communication to understand and apply meaning in any language. Gifted students are often ready to learn the skills for advanced writing that are linked to the study of substantive issues and themes. They also need to learn the qualities that make a writer and how to understand themselves as writers. The author concludes that writing provides innumerable advantages: as an enabler to clear thinking, as a way to retain and improve one’s understanding of self and others, and even as a career path.
