Abstract
A California Verbal Learning Test (CVLT) format was used in developing a similar test in Spanish for a Denver Hispanic population. The Perri Test de Aprendizaje Verbal y de Memoria (Perri TAVM) was originally developed and normed in Spanish to address criticism of using translated versions of preexisting tests. It includes five learning trials, an interference list, an immediate recall trial, delayed recall, cued delayed recall, and delayed recognition. In developing the test, we selected word categories because they are common across a broad variety of Hispanic cultures and chose items based on frequency of use in Spanish. The resulting test uses a 16-word list consisting of four categories of four words each, and a 40-word recognition list. We present initial normative data for a Denver sample (N = 100); included are data from a clinical sample (N = 26) of patients referred for neuropsychological testing.
