Abstract
Teaching leadership online is a new and often daunting enterprise for educators. However, the medium of computer conferencing is, in fact, useful for introducing students to the skills of self- and team-based leadership, particularly to prepare students for their future roles in virtual team-based organizations. Organizations of the future will thrive to the extent that employees at all levels in an organization can exercise leadership initiative and can effectively use information technology (Klenke, 1997; Heterick, 1996). This article describes the synergy that can be created when leadership education is adapted to the online environment and describes effective implementation strategies for instructors.
