Abstract
Leadership is traditionally perceived as a male position. However, women have taken on leadership roles for centuries. This article examines the leadership role from a female perspective. This material focuses on the leadership styles and strategies utilized by female leaders of the Pre-Civil War era and the twentieth century. In an effort to evaluate leadership styles and strategies of women leaders, the rhetoric of ten women leaders was analyzed. The purpose for such an analysis was to determine whether women are evolving as leaders.
