Abstract
Food for the Hungry/Kenya (FH/K), a nongovernmental development organization, has been working to establish a leaderful organizational culture characterized by shared leadership roles and responsibilities, a strong organizational identity centered in a shared vision, and a healthy sense of community. Key to their success has been the efforts of a director who expertly practices transformational and servant leadership. This paper describes the organizational characteristics and conditions that have facilitated shared leadership and community-building in FH/K, and discusses the organizational challenges that need to be met for this approach to be sustained.
