Abstract
This document is intended to show how basic leadership theories were used to form the framework for research in the field of athletic leadership.
Leadership theories such as trait, behavioral and situational are discussed as well as the eventual impact they had on the development of Chelladurai's and Carron's sports specific Multidimensional Theory of Sports Leadership.
Finally, the document provides information on some of the shortcomings and successes of the relevant research efforts. In addition, the document provides at least one means with which to determine future appropriate research efforts and hopefully the encouragement to do so.
