Abstract
The authors explore how leadership development can serve as a means to bond two cultures, the culture of the university and the culture of the broader community that the university is here to serve. The exploration provides a definition of key terms and a review of relevant literature, offers a vision of a more effective bond and a rendering of the current state of relations between university and community, and ends with an outline of the dimensions of an innovative project at Michigan State University in community leadership development.
