Abstract
This paper presents the rationale and format of two assessment inventories concerned with the safety and supportive features of elderly home environments. The first inventory deals with aspects internal to the dwelling, and the second considers the home in its neighborhood context. The purpose here is to assist individuals in evaluating the suitability of housing for either continuing or proposed elderly living. The inventories were designed to be used by individuals with no prior experience in evaluating housing. They are currently being field tested in two elderly assistance programs.
