Human Factors Engineering Getting Started at the General Motors Plant Workplace

Abstract

Initial approaches for introducing HFE principles to the plant workplace which were somewhat less than successful included emphasis on social responsibilities, legislation changes and increasing numbers of women entering the manufacturing workforce. The present, very successful, approach involves quantification of costs which can be favorably impacted by an emphasis of HFE principles at the plant workplace.
