Quality Control of Instruction: A Logical Analysis Procedure

Abstract

In the context of the systems approach to instructional program development this paper reports the development and validation of a set of procedures called the Instructional Quality Inventory (IQI) to be used for diagnostic evaluation of materials and procedures. In contrast to traditional empirical procedures, the IQI detects faults in instruction using logical analysis which prescribes changes required for correction. Tests of the validity of the prescriptions in terms of student performance are reported as well as test of the reliability with which users evaluate instruction. Although the IQI can be used reliably, the substantial support for the validity of the ideas is mostly indirect and based on modest amounts of instruction. Therefore, a large scale experimental test is proposed.
