Abstract
Tablet computers are becoming ubiquitous and enable new ways to provide information. Specifically, the tablet’s touchscreen offers a novel way for an individual to interact with 3D graphics. Current learning directives such as the US Army ALC 2015 push for the use of mobile devices, to be used for training. The current paper proposes a conceptual framework for media-based instruction of psychomotor tasks to be conducted on tablets. The framework is based on Cognitive Load Theory and associated interaction principles. The framework can be used to investigate different types of graphic interaction, which we label dynamic interactive graphics and dynamic automated graphics. Dynamic interactive graphics provide the highest level of interaction while dynamic automated graphics provide less interaction by including automated functions.
