Abstract
This paper outlines Brazil's current efforts to develop a model for sustamable development. Present and future efforts within the energy, timber and agricultural sectors are combined with a new program of ecological-economical zoning. This policy framework seeks to balance the need for economic growth and enhancement of quality of life with environmental protection. Brazil's Plan for Conversion of the External Debt for Environmental Ends is also presented.
