This paper provides a method of testing for coder bias on variables with three or more coding categories. The test utilizes clarity of coding informa tion as the independent variable. The test-variable coder can test for evi dence of his own biases relative to each coding category, although use of another coder for this task is advised. Coding bias and its ramifications are briefly discussed, and an example is provided of a series of bias tests.
