Abstract
Diversity of interests has received little empirical attention although it is a concept that may be useful in understanding career development and adjustment. This study was designed to develop a composite measure of interest diversity, that incorporated (a) relatedness, (b) intensity, and (c) number of interests, using data from the General Occupational Themes of the Strong Interest Inventory, the Breadth of Interest Scale of the Jackson Personality Inventory, and three self-ratings of interest diversity. The Composite Diversity of Interests Measure identified gender differences in interest diversity as well as occupational group differences.
