Abstract
A family systems model is presented for consideration in group work with nontraditional women. Holiday stress often exacerbates family concerns in individual and group therapies, especially in this university Counseling Center setting where students feel pressure to return home after being absent from their families of origin for most of the year A systems approach, particularly Virginia Satir's communication/validation family therapy, was used by the cofacilitators of a nontraditional women's group in conjunction with the Stone Center's Relational and Cultural Model to lessen holiday stress and to implement change.
