Abstract
This article presents relative historical events responsible for bringing about the need to use treatment methods capable of delivering low-cost, quality mental health services. Furthermore, a review of current literature is provided to support this need. The Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Model is presented as one means of service delivery in an age of managed mental health care. This model has been designed to meet the mental health needs of individuals, couples, and families for which effective brief therapeutic intervention is demanded. The reader is provided with a basic understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of the model, which are defined and synthesized into an applied approach. Basic solution-focused language and examples of its application are included so that each aspect of the model can be immediately used with clients.
