Abstract
Self-report assessment instruments do not seem to be widely used aonwg marriage and family counselors. The purpose of this article is to illustrate ways in which self-report instruments may be used to augment clinical assessment in counseling with couples. Potential barriers and benefits to using self-report instruments in counseling are identified. A case study using an assessment tool measuring multiple areas of relationship functining (ENRICH) is presented. Implications for treatment are discussed.
