Abstract
This conceptual manuscript explores the application of emotionally focused therapy (EFT) in sexually diverse intimate partnerships, particularly those involving differences in sexual identities, preferences, or practices between partners (e.g., kink and vanilla dynamics). It outlines how EFT can help couples navigate stigma, power dynamics, and communication challenges while fostering relational resilience, emotional safety, and intimacy. The paper aims to inform culturally competent and kink-aware sex and couples’ counselors in their work with marginalized and diverse couples.
