There is a critical need for culturally responsive and inclusive methods of counseling. This extends to couples counseling for BIPOC and marginalized clients. Emotion-focused therapy (EFT) is a promising method of working with couples that is grounded in Western/European values. However, using the cultural lens approach, EFT can be adapted to work with Latine couples. This article details EFT and the cultural lens approach, explains adapting EFT for work with Latine couples, and provides recommendations for counselors.
