Abstract
Attachment is a core human need. A safe and rewarding emotional connection is a need and desire. With couplehood being an important part of the attachment process, success in relationships could be vital to an individual’s well-being. This article addresses four core relationship challenges, provides a brief description of diverse theoretical approaches used in couple work, identifies how therapists can affect the therapeutic alliance, and offers a theoretically integrated approach through a 9-week couples program in an outline format.
