Abstract
Planning of the manufacturing process because of its complexity is made by the process engineer in stages, from general concept to particular solutions, in an iterative way. A model of manufacturing knowledge in the form of decision-making hierarchical networks is presented in the paper. Basing such a way of representing the knowledge, three stages of planning were specified: selection of a generalized structure of manufactunng process; reversible design of the semi-finished product; and generating the machining process. The presented way of process planning corresponds to creative activity of the process engineer and may constitute a model of an expert system for manufactunng process planning.
