Abstract
This paper presents a methodology for the evaluation of manufacturability of die-cast components. The methodology defines and determines parameters pertaining to manufacturability of the die-cast parts, namely shape complexity, die complexity, cycle time, machine size and processing parameters. The evaluator assists in examining design alternatives at preliminary design stages where geometric data is minimal or on detailed designs. Numerical analyses are conducted with Finite Element Method (FEM) to assess the accuracy of the rapid evaluation results. The paper presents a case study of a part for which die-casting is considered as a process alternative.
