Abstract
This article reviews the literature concerning oral anticoagulant-phenytoin interactions. Two cases involving concurrent warfarin-phenytoin administration are discussed.
The medical literature supports a major interaction between dicumarol and phenytoin. Dicumarol significantly increases phenytoin levels, while the effect of phenytoin on dicumarol lessens anticoagulant activity.
The available evidence indicates oral anticoagulants differ in their interactions with phenytoin. The mechanisms involved in oral anticoagulant-phenytoin interactions are also discussed.
