The use and mechanisms of action of intravenous nitroglycerin (NTG) are briefly described. Various aspects of the preparation and quality control of IV NTG solutions are discussed and details for preparing a 0.1 percent NTG solution are presented. Several refinements and comparisons between existing methods for the assay and pyrogen testing of NTG solutions are explored. The testing of intravenous NTG preparation for visual clarity is commented upon.
