Abstract
A review of pathology, corrective measures, and incidence of salicylate poisoning is presented.
A composite patient case (developed to illustrate symptomatology of salicylism) demonstrates a wide range of signs and symptoms. Subsequent discussion of supportive and corrective measures emphasizes correction of the acid-base, and fluid and electrolyte imbalance associated with salicylate poisoning. Treatment is considered within the context of both moderate and severe poisoning; recently developed and traditional procedures are reviewed.
