Abstract
This study examines the effects of participative decision making within the context of a union-management cooperative effort. A survey was administered to 664 data transcribers at two sites with participatively designed programs and three sites with programs designed by management alone. The participative decision-making programs were seen as more equitable, more responsive to problems, and more motivating, and they generated higher satisfaction. The moderate level of positive impact at the participative sites is considered to reflect the moderate level of the intervention.
