Abstract
A new multiscale method is developed to simulate the trans-scale process of concrete structures from material mesodamage to structural failure with three-level model which, respectively, describe nonkey, key, and damaged regions. Adaptive level change criteria coupled in the method ensures level change due to evolving damage without user intervention in the computation. As a case study, the trans-scale damage process of a concrete cantilever beam and reinforced concrete (RC) frame structure is simulated. It shows that the method can be used to reveal the failure mechanisms of concrete structures from the view of mesoscale with lower cost.
