Abstract
This qualitative study examined the challenges and opportunities school principals in Israel grappled with during wartime since October 7, 2023. Ninety-five principals responded to an open-ended questionnaire. Findings revealed that study participants experienced tensions between their emotional responses to the war and their required administrative responsibilities. Specifically, six influential factors (helping and hindering) were central to the principals’ role during the war. This study examined an extreme form of crisis, providing deep personal insights and strategies to support principals in times of crisis, in any situation. Suggestions are proffered to change and strengthen support mechanisms for educational leaders confronting crises.
