Abstract
The study assessed teachers’ perceptions and its determinants in building moral character of pupils in Tanzania. The study used quantitative approach, and descriptive survey design to 400 teachers. Data were collected through questionnaire. The study employed systematic and stratified sampling and data analysis involved descriptively and exploratory factor analysis using SPSS Version 24. The findings showed that majority of teachers 238(59.5%) have high level perception towards building moral character, and their perceptions were determined by understanding of the moral character guidelines, usefulness of the guidelines and behavioral intention. The study recommended educational stakeholders to nurture high level of teachers’ perception in building moral character. Particularly, the government of Tanzania should make sure that moral education books, teachers, seminars, workshops, and related materials in teaching and learning are available in schools. The paper recommends a comparative study of perceptions between rural and urban teachers to explore contextual issues more broadly.
