Abstract
Herman Morris, Jr., is Memphis Light, Gas, and Water’s (MLGW) president and CEO. He provides leadership to 2,700 employees and oversees a U.S.$1.1 billion budget for America’s largest three-service utility. In 2002, Mr. Morris was named a finalist for the Platts/Business Week Global Energy Awards in the category of CEO of the Year. The Platts/Business Week Global Energy Awards program is the most prestigious in the industry. Morris’s nomination focused on his incomparable integrity, courage, vision, decisiveness, and leadership. These characteristics have carried MLGW to exceptional heights. Under Morris’s leadership, MLGW has received numerous honors and awards, including earning Moody’s Investor Service’s AAA and Standard and Poor’s AAA bond ratings. MLGW is the only utility in the world to hold these coveted and highly respected ratings.
