Abstract
To boost student understanding of international business practice and potential, U.S. colleges and universities are increasingly using student group travel as a pedagogical tool. The increasing complexity of these programs (due to a greater number of trips and more exotic travel destinations) delivers an increase in the potential for programrelated crises. This article discusses the value and potential of managing these crises. The conceptual tools of crisis management are developed in this context and specific management recommendations are outlined. The authors use their own experience of a canceled 3-week MBA trip to China in 1999 to guide the discussion.
