Child welfare professionals are encountering a growing number of children with incarcerated parents. Too frequently these children, like children whose parents have died, are disenfranchised grievers coping with compounded losses. William Worden has identified four emotional tasks for grieving children. This article explores the applicability of this model to children with parents in prison and suggests the use of bibliotherapy as an effective intervention. Juvenile literature written specifically for this population is analyzed accordingly.
