Case material in the form of vignette, anecdote, andstory iscrucial tothe understanding of disaster and toresponding topeople who are suffering. The comparativestudy of case material gathered from widely differing disasters helps in the correction of overgeneralizations in theory, method, treatment plan, and policy making. This article explores the corrective process through examples drawn largely from the Worcester, Massachusetts, fireof1999 and theOklahoma City bombing of 1995.
