Abstract
Special education in Switzerland offers a rich variety of handicapped and early childhood programs, as well as the teacher preparation programs to serve them. This article reviews the historical and socio-cultural background of current services, considers the contributions of three noted individuals, and surveys current early childhood along with qualifications for teacher training. Principles of education of the handicapped in Switzerland are presented, as are the personal reflections of the authors.
