Behavior modification is clearly one of the most efficacious tools available to professionals who work with children and youth with special needs. However, this widely used tool is often implemented in an incorrect or less-than-optimal fashion. In response to this problem, the present article identifies essential features of behavior modification programs relative to their use with children with exceptionalities.
