Abstract
Dr. Hill Walker has spent over 50 years focused on school-related behavior disorders among children and youth with expertise in universal screening, school safety, antisocial behavior in youth, social skills, and challenging behavior. He is nationally recognized as a pioneer for applying Multitiered Support Systems (MTSS), earning recognition for his role by the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS) in 2017. He has authored over 200 publications, including journal articles, chapters, and 21 books as lead or co-author. His most recent book is Solutions to Critical Behavioral Issues in the Classroom. Across his career, he has received approximately $40 million in research funding as a principal investigator (PI) or Co-PI on federal and state grants. He continues to research and mentor staff within the Center on Human Development at the University of Oregon. The following interview outlines Dr. Walker’s accomplishments in the field of special education as well as important takeaways and suggestions from an influential career spanning over half a century.
