Screen to Screen Versus Face to Face: Experiencing the Differences in Management Education

Abstract

Access to the Internet has become a powerful tool for linking classrooms, business, and the larger learning community. Management educators have explored the techniques of the paperless class, online international case discussions, and ethnographic studies of user-group messages in response to particular issues. This article proposes to discuss and demonstrate the use of connective technology in the classroom to prepare students for computer-mediated interaction in the workplace. Use of a modified, classic management experiential exercise as a network event is combined with suggestions for debriefing. In addition, some considerations will be advanced as to the role that the field of organizational behavior can play in making sense of the technology-mediated impact on human interaction.
