Abstract
The initial challenge that confronted the author was redesigning a course in small business ventures (SBVs) to make it more relevant to the needs of multiple course users. Are orientation from a conventional functional perspective to an entrepreneurial one led not only to a new course but to the reevaluation of the centrality of the functional approach in business education. The present preoccupation on functionality is seen as reflective of a historical classification of business engagements from a functional/structural perspective rather than from a rational/structural one. The question posed is whether this rational/structural approach might lead to a more effective teaching scheme.
