Abstract
Because "all the world's a stage," those of us at center stage in the classroom can enhance our performance by learning explicit techniques taught in schools of drama. Many fine instructors are skilled performers, often implicitly or unconsciously using methods of communication similar to those used by theatre professionals. An extended metaphor between teaching and acting is presented, with the proposition that teachers have much to learn from the art of acting. The goal of this article is to enable the instructor to develop innovative and perhaps provocative ways in which to present material, as well as to increase participation and interest in the classroom.
