Abstract
This article integrates behavioral approaches into the teaching and learning of quantitative subjects with application to statistics. Focusing on the emotional component of learning, the article presents a system dynamic model that provides descriptive and prescriptive accounts of learners' anxiety. Metaphors and the metaphorizing process are suggested as a creative strategy to deal with quantitative anxiety and to achieve transformative learning. The article provides detailed illustration for implementing the process in the learning of three core statistical concepts—expected value, normal curve, and confidence interval—in addition to brief images for regression.
