Abstract
This article describes a structured learningactivity designed to explore information technology (IT) in organizational and strategic contexts. The assignment, known as the “IT Audit,” is structured around a set of interdisciplinary research questions that students apply to a client organization. The assignment builds the student’s ability to predict, diagnose, and subsequently mitigate organizational risks inherent in IT deployment. Learningoutcomes focus on IT as it relates to organizational strategy and competitive advantage, communications process design, motivational and values orientation of IT specialists, change leadership, organizational design, and quality of work life issues.
