Abstract
Presenting games as a metaphor for group interactions in the managerial classroom, the authors distinguish between finite and infinite games and introduce the notion of transitional play. Whereas the finite game emphasizes competition and adherence to roles and rules, the infinite game invites relationships and engages the whole person. The article specifically explores the movement between these two games through transitional play, in which groups question and experiment with multiple ways of being together. The authors argue that transitional play is pivotal for learning and identify specific learning opportunities wherein management educators can play an active role in promoting the infinite game.
