Abstract
It is vitally important for students to be creating music from the youngest age, and in all general music class settings. Now that the National Standards have been revised (renamed the National Core Arts Standards) and creating has been elevated to one of three artistic processes, the creative activities of composing, arranging, and improvising are more essential and relevant than ever. Because iPads are engaging and dynamic teaching and learning tools that are increasingly prevalent in K–12 schools and preschool settings, this article provides guidance for teachers of general music to make informed technology choices for their classrooms. It features recommended apps, detailed descriptions of their use, teaching suggestions, and sample lesson plans.
