Abstract
Observation of successful teachers of not-so-able students suggested the significance of empathy with learning difficulties in the practitioners. Consideration was given to the development of simulations designed to develop empathy with learning difficulties, based upon the model of STARPOWER. The process of the design of the simulation is described, identifying some of the crucial decision points in the development of the exercise, as a case study in the development of simulation exercises of this type. The main elements of the exercise are then analyzed, and from this analysis, some generalizations concerning empathy simulations for professional training are suggested.
