This article summarises several of the topics currently being investigated at the University of Strathclyde associated with the area of Smart Structures and the efforts being made to channel these research efforts into a coordinated research programme. Sev eral project areas are outlined including optical sensing, material cure monitoring, mechanical analyses and control.
