Abstract
In order to test the flaws of composite materials, the acoustic imaging method of F-Scan (Feature Scan) has been studied in this paper and a testing system has been developed. Compared with the method of C-Scan which only records the wave amplitude and time of flight of each testing wave, F-Scan records the full wave information at each testing point. This makes F-Scan a strong tool for the testing of composite whose quality is difficult to test and evaluate. Defect features such as the porosity, delamination, inclusion and crack can be extracted accurately and swiftly through this system. Lateral resolution has been greatly improved by focusing transducer immersed in water or by digital changing focus. The image of the defects can be reconstructed within a half wavelength of layer. The frequency analysis technique of spectrum imaging and the chromatography technique have also been used.
