Abstract
Human bite marks are part of the long list of physical signs exhibited by abused children. Techniques for evaluating the characteristics of the mark itself are being perfected in an attempt to identify and prosecute the biter, who in many cases is also the abuser. The author examines human bite marks in general and discusses their relationship to child abuse. The physical appearance of bite marks is described, and some practical advice on recognizing and documenting bite marks for later evaluation by forensic experts is offered.
