See BrandzelEsther, “Working Through the Oedipal Struggle in Family-Unit Sessions,”Social Casework, Vol. XLVI, July 1965, pp. 414–22. A key difference between my case and Esther Brandzel's case is the matter of limitations of ego capacity. In my case the knowledge of previous treatment failures combined with the urgency of school crisis situations resulted in more directive, reality-focused work with Leo; an extension of positive therapeutic forces beyond the family itself; and little concern with insights stemming from early past history.
